Deer head mounting is the backbone of a complete taxidermy studio. When the sportsman
shoots a trophy buck he immediately thinks of taxidermy. After having his deer mounted
and hanging on the wall something very important happens, every time he looks at
the deer it brings back the memory of the hunt.
At the Rinehart Taxidermy Institute you will learn the two methods for setting deer
eyes. The first is my patented "Eyes-Right" process with the deer's eyes
already sculptured in the mannequin. My Eyes-Right process makes big game head mounting
easier and faster.
The second method we teach is the traditional clay set eye, which is where the mannequin
has a hollow spot for the eyes and you must sculpt the rest with clay. This method
is important to know as some animals you may get in are rare and there may not be
an Eyes-Right mannequin available for that species.
We also teach you how to cape, tan and flesh your own deer so when you go back to
set up your shop you will know how to do it all and can start making $400 to $550
on a deer head.
